The School Counseling Profession
The profession of school counseling has changed over the past several decades and emerged as one focused on advocacy, systemic change, leadership, and collaboration. School counselors work in elementary, middle, and high school settings to help all students in their academic, social/emotional, and career development. To do so, school counselors utilize individual counseling, small group counseling, school counseling core curriculum lessons, and consultation with school stakeholders.
In the video below, Drs. Sejal Parikh Foxx and Clare Merlin discuss the role of a school counselor, shifts in that role over time, and the current state of school counseling.
